Steepwater - Nomad 1/8/2022

Happy birthday to my bride Christi!!!

This song is called Christi's Restaurant, and it's about Christi, and the Restaurant, but Christi's Restaurant is not the name of the restaurant. That's just the name of the song, and that's why I called the song Christi's Restaurant.
"You can have any birthday party you want at Christi's Restaurant
You can have any birthday party you want at Christi's Restaurant
Walk right in it's around the back
Just a half a minute from Dairy Queen
You can have any birthday party you want at Christi's Restaurant

(just go to the back, or go to Leroy's tonight)"

Yes, I took from Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant". I believe the song was meant as a hash of anything goes in a song.

This annual event with The Steepwater Band and Leroy's "Hot Stuff" restaurant is always so cool. Of the recent past years, Nomad Planets has joined them. Two totally different sounding bands getting together to play original music, all of which heightens our spirits.

It depends on your groove at the moment, which song will grab you and take you to another level. Both bands had songs like that this evening that sent my emotions to a happy place. The same can happen with a connection to a band member. Of course all of this changes each time you meet. This night I connected with Eric Saylors again. His groove was my groove. He cranked it when I wanted it and laid back for emphasis. Yes, sometimes the down and low can be the emphasis. It does not always need to be the hammer.

I was very pleased with Leroy's this evening. Of course the food is always good. The service tonight was expectational. What I really appreciated my first time back in a couple of years, was the non-smoking environment. What a pleasant change.

As it sometimes is at a venue, lighting can be a real challenge. Low light, red light, is not a photographers friend. So I have converted all of the photographs to black and white and corrected the grain in some from high speed shooting. Some of the photographs I used additional editing to give it a different look that would pop the photo a little bit more. Hope it works for you . . .

Nomad Planets benefit to NWI Food Bank

The Nomad Planets never fail. They will always find a way. This years benefit for the NWI Food Bank was impressive. Lots of people, lots of food donations, lots of music to entertain us, and lots of good food to eat.

Hammond for me is still a focal point, a hub, for NWI. I am very happy to see business owners like Raymundo Garcia place a business stake in the ground and call their own, and to re-open such a wonderful building, and restaurant. I'm talking about the old Goldblatt's store now owned by Raymundo, and his restaurant EAT. Thank you Raymundo!

Fever Queen opened for us this night, backed by Nomad Planets. She has charisma. Something about her draws you in. Nomad Planets did an excellent job with the backing music, giving her front stage. I will be waiting on my next opportunity to listen to Fever Queen and to photograph.

After Fever Queen's short set, Nomad Planets did their thing. For as much as I have heard Nomad Planets, it does not get old. Their music is original. Their sense of wanting to perform for us is high. Their willingness to motivate each other is unparalleled. Their play kicks it into gear for you to groove to in any which way you want. Of course, they have stories to tell as well.

I have to say, I love this Janis piece of art . . .

The Unstoppables! From writing their own tunes to playing acoustic and rock cover songs, these guys help make NWI unstoppable. They are supporters of our area music, and tonight they also supported the NWI food bank . . . Thank You!

Local, groovy, showcasing what NWI is all about. Gotta love it!
