The Robots 4/7/12

What can I say. Another great night with The Robots. Their first set was all Beatles. From what I understand, not all by design, just going with the groove. That is one thing I picked up on last night. These guys "see" the audience and know what to play. There is a talent to that, knowing when to go with "the plan", when to deviate, change it up, or say what the hell.

After coming back from my photo shoot in Atlanta, studying photography lighting, I noticed I did not shoot as many photos as I usually do, which is a good thing because I shoot way too many. My eye tonight was more "in tune" with the band and taking better photos. Or at least I hope I was. This first photo is one of the rare full band photos I was able to take. Usually I am to close to do this . . .

These next couple photos are of my beautiful friend, unofficial adopted sister, and she is taken so keep you hands off, Renee.  You can see Renee's photos on my blog by clicking here.  You may notice that "lead guitar" in her first photo (hint hint).

Put the pedal to the skin, as it were . . .

You gotta love these next two photos.  The gang on the pool table were finding Renee and Pete a bit more interesting to watch that playing pool . . .

And, the Fox is probably thinking, "I'd like to put the move on her when Pete's not around . . . " lol . . .

Danny was just killing it tonight with Pete . . .

Bob got such a hard-on that he had to get into the beat as well . . .

Now a change up. Bob brought up Roy Waters to jam with the band. I really like Roy. His deep rich voice goes along with his deep rich bass guitar playing. Roy knows how to have fun! The band cherishes every opportunity they have to join him in the fun. And I mean Join Him, because once Roy takes the stage, he is in command with that vocal and base . . .

Danny just could not stop jamming tonight . . .

The band invited father and son, Jim and Kevin Sasaki up to play.  Jim was great on vocal, and his son knew how to crank it up,with a little help from his friends.

When Jim handed it off to Pete, well just say, Pete ran away with it, to the moon and back.  Pete always finds ways into the zone, to get off with it, to let loose with and say "this is mine!"

And, each band member has their "running away" with it each night they play.  It was handed to Crazy Chris, who chose to play the keyboards from the other side of the fence again.

The next song, Bob asked Jim and Kevin to stay up with them and jam . . .

Bob thought he would have a little fun, and asked Kevin "remember the girl that left you . . .", which Kevin felt it, got down on it, and gave us some great strings.

Of course this show happens with Bob at the com, feeding everyone with their tasks, feeling the vibe of the audience, changing it up when needed, behind the scenes as it were making sure things are going smooth.  For a smooth man himself, Thank You Bob!

The band handed the mic and a guitar to friend Joe Goodrich and Kirk.  Between Joe and Danny, they killed the set . . .

I am not sure how these guys walk out of here at night, with all the drinks that are bought for them . . .

A photo of Jeff Marlowe and Cheryl Brass with Pete.  I had fun next to Cheryl this evening because she was really getting into the bands performance, and especially Ed's drum solo.  It is cool to see her appreciate the artists like I do . . .

Bob and Pete have a great time together.  They have gone a long way as friends, and they will always be tight because of that . . .

Ed has a terrific drum solo.  He not only vibrates those skins, he can even hold pitch and rhythm with whatever you put in front of him . . . and he loves the challenge . . .

Now, a photographer is suppose to get down and dirty with anything thrown at him or her. I stepped into the arena, drew my camera, and attacked. They fought back, stepping on me, blasting music in my ears, and at the end of the day, I was victorious . . . (Pete did not know I was behind him lying on the ground, photographing Ed, so when Pete went to back up he found an obstruction, me, and I was not going to give him ground . . . lol . . . we all had a blast . . .)

The End

No, it is not about the band, and The Robots know that. It is about the people that surround them, wanting to be entertained, to feed that energy back to the band. Yet at the same time it is about the band. For without them, none of this evening would have ever taken place. Great job Bob, Pete, Chris, Ed, Danny, and their extended band family that played that night: Roy, Joe, Kirk, Jim and Kevin!
