Nomad Planets 5/11/19

Play it again Sam . . .

Nomad Planets is a cool group of guys playing original music and supporting the greater NW Indiana businesses and artists of all kind. So not only are they cool to go see, I support them because they support us.

Because drummers seem to be left out of a lot of photographs too, I chose to put the drummer Terry Boylan's photograph first today. I arrive late, and left early. Things to do. Still, I had a great time watching these guys and listening to their music, and of course taking a few photographs. Please check them out (the band)!

Mark Mybeck — Lead Vocal / Guitar

Phil Rapchack — Bass / Vocal
(yes, I actually heard him sing tonight)

John Carpenter — Lead Guitar / Vocal

Terry Boylan — Drums / Vocal

Lou Shields at PH 4/24/19

Lou Shields
Cabin Sessions

When you think of roots, country blues, delta blues, and folk music, you think of story telling. You also think of Lou Shields. Lou has become a great story teller of life. He travels to meet people, to see the connection we have to this land and each other. He also pulls from family history.

This evening Lou came back to Paul Henry's Art Gallery so that he could visit old time friends and to treat us to songs on his new CD, Cabin Sessions. My bride Christi and I chose to purchase the vinyl version shown above.

Lou is also an artist. His journey is heard in his music and seen in his art. Such a wonderful combination of Americana made for today's story telling. I have pieces of both because I need someone like Lou to connect to, to enjoy what music and art bring to enrich my life.

Lou also teaches art at Prairie State College, one of our local colleges. He makes the weekly trip from Wisconsin when school is in session. He is truly blessed, and he knows it in a very humble way, which gives him the motivation to do all that he does.

What does he do for fun? Obviously his music and art. He also skate boards, and works with his hands building cabins of late. A man for all seasons, doing what he does best, being Lou and connecting to life and earth.

Here are some photographs taken this evening by me and my bride Christi. Enjoy! Oh, and please check out the YouTube link at the end of this blog post!!

In the photograph below is Lou's 1931 guitar he refurbished. Talk about character and coolness! His other guitar and banjo are shown in the photograph after.

Just something one does when they are in Paul Henry's Art Gallery with a camera. Look up and take the shot.

Ironically, I do not recall ever seeing Lou stand up and play. So this was a treat this evening.

As you enter from the front of the gallery, in what was the paint store side, you cross through a small corridor. A wonderful partition between gallery and song. It opens up to a room full of people from all walks of life, very fitting for Lou and the community. Very hospitable by the people and proprietor David Mueller.
